why i prefer starbucks
i don't think i had my first cup of dunkin donuts coffee until sometime in 2001. there was a little shop inside the lobby of the hospital i worked at in boston so it was convenient and tasted better than the slop they served in the cafe. however, it was months before i could get them to make it the way i like it consistently. you see, i like iced coffee more than i do hot coffee and i like when it's iced to have a sugar and cream. but not alot of either...that goes for my hot coffee as well. although i can and often do drink hot coffee black. the ratio of cream and sugar to coffee is where DD's and i have issues. for some reason they seem to think when you ask for cream and sugar that what you really want is 3/4's of a glass of cream, 1/8 of a glass of sugar and a splash of coffee. if i wanted a glass of milk that tasted a bit like coffee then that's what i'd *potty mouth word* order.
i don't think there's a DD's in the entire state of arkansas so i'd forgotten this as i drove through the DD's closest to my current residence this past week. needless to say when the guy at the window shoved a glass of tinted milk at me i had to have looked a bit confused. the second time i drove through i stressed that i just wanted a LITTLE cream and sugar. the look this time was more of annoyance when the same off white colored beverage was all but thrown into my car. so this last time i tried again asking as politely and yet as firmly as my southern manners will allow that my coffee only have a small amount of cream and sugar. at the window i watched as my glass was filled almost to the top with cream and sugar before a "short-pour shot" of coffee was added. WTF?!?! maybe i'm ordering it wrong. so i ask the nice looking mediterranean guy how i should order it next time if i wanted there to be less cream. judging from the look on his face and the way he repeated "less cream?" that's really not an option. i dropped my third cup of iced milk into the cupholder of the chewymobile, paid the guy and drove away vowing never to drink dd's coffee ever again.
there's a starbucks about 5 minutes farther away in the opposite direction from my house and they have never ever handed me a glass of coffee colored milk. BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!!! they'll also add as many shots of expresso as i think i can handle without shakin like a junkie needin a fix. and that's the real reason i prefer starbucks.
