  early onset alzheimer's

yes it's true my memory is officially MIA. i made a mental note to blog about something i noticed today but i've completely forgotten what it was. maybe i should have written it down but then i'd have just forgotten where i wrote it down at so the end result would have been the same. such a same to suffer from alzheimer's at the age of 28.

so in leiu of whatever escaped my sieve like brain i decided to play along with the silver fox et al.

Book Challenge

1. Total Number of Books I've Owned:
sheesh...since childhood? a shot in the dark since i'm not one to keep running stats on much of anything other than this blog...500. although many have been lost in relocation processes or loaned out never to be seen again.

2. Last Book I Bought:
technically, the absolute last book i purchased was Jay Jay Jetplane's Big Book of Flight (for my son of course)
however, last book i actually purchased for myself was Cascading Style Sheets:The Definitive Guide by Eric A. Meyer

3. Last Book I Read:
in tandem: CSS Cookbook--Christopher Schmitt and Creating Cool Web Sites with HTML, XHTML, and CSS--Dave Taylor.

4. Five Books That Mean A Lot To Me:
a) The Joy of Cooking: technically it's a cook book but for someone that loves to cook, as i do, it's more like a bible. my sister in law gave it to me as a gift many years ago. it's taught me how to make a perfect pie crust almost with my eyes closed and the best chocolate torte i've ever put in my mouth.
b) Dutch : A Memoir of Ronald Reagan: president regan is the first president i remember and one of my favorites to date.
c) McCarthy's Bar: A Journey of Discovery In Ireland: as i stated in my "100 list" i love all things irish...well most things. this book offers a close and personal glimpse into the heart and soul of ireland's people. the only book i've ever been able to read through twice.
d) The Great Shame : And the Triumph of the Irish in the English-Speaking World : captivating in it's outline of the struggle and determination of the irish people from ireland to the exiles in what is now australlia and making their mark on america. it lives in my car for those moments when i wish i'd brought a good book with me.
e) Shadow : Five Presidents and the Legacy of Watergate: as a child i heard people reference watergate and nixon more times than i care to remember. it was an era that i didn't truly understand until i read this book. while it doesn't dwell long on nixon and his actions i learned much more, i believe, by reliving the actions and reactions of the presidents that followed him as well as those of the general public and media. this is also the first political book i read. it was not the last by far.

5. Tag five people and have them do this on their blog:
the silver fox said: "Five? Five!? That seems a tall order for a blog-of-small-readership like this one. Try three:...."
i agree completely that five is quite alot when your established fan base is still in the single digits and the only people that happen upon my site otherwise are looking for porn and/or alcohol...not really the types, if i may be stereotypical for a moment, to bother with a book meme.
